Re: TE Connectivity contactors

Omron also have a 25A 400V relay in the G9EJ series.
They are about $35ea.
There are blade quick connect in that series.

Re: Oversized RC BLDC Outrunners

You would also need 10kWh+ for 50km range minimum say ~$5k.
28 Leaf modules (14S2P) is about 11kWh 106Vnom 115Vchgd.

Re: Oversized RC BLDC Outrunners

Oh and their unknown/untested so you'd be own your own.
It would be an $1800 gamble.

Don't use the smaller one (35kW) as it has no internal phase sensors.
At least with the bigger motor you could replace the controller with something common.

Re: Oversized RC BLDC Outrunners

Yep so a few problems. 1. It's an outrunner so a Big coffee tin spinning around in you engine bay. 2. Typical RPM is usually most ICE's peak so will need a good hi-revving gearbox (thin oil). 3. Airflow issues as suggested above FAN Power->RPM^2 vs High stall current on vehicle 4. Probably over rate...

Re: TE Connectivity contactors

The datasheet for the EVC80 is dated 5/2018.
So it maybe that the product is too new to be picked up by suppliers.

So there is hope some might become available soon rather than the usual 50 week lead time...

Re: TE Connectivity contactors

After a bit of searching around I also found that TE now also do a "precharge" conatactor. But really it's just a low power contactor that COULD be used for precharge as it has a limit of 20A 450V. Its called the "Mini K HV". Model number V23700 and has a couple of variants. Most of them seem to be ...

Re: TE Connectivity contactors

The TE contactor would have a loss of about 8W at 80A. So considering an IGBT solid state switch with the same loss the voltage drop would have to be 0.1V which doesn't exist. A FET solid state switch would have to have an on resistance of 1.2mR. At 400+ volts that's a tough ask. 10-15 Fet's in para...

OMRON has a possible alternative G9EA-1 12VDC.
But its not as compact.
Doesn't really seem any cheaper than the kilovac either.

NAWA looks like another hopes and dreams company. All CGI no real photo's of anything. Their link to the Geneva Auto show doesn't just talk about NAWA but many supercap manufacturers. In fact the only comment made about them was that NAWA "believe" they could reduce a formula-e car from 300kg to 200...

Re: TE Connectivity contactors

Most of the ppl I deal with use the TE part number 2203997-1. And I'm not seeing any around. Which doesn't say much since most TE relays are on like 60 week lead times. I told TE to build a relay factory a year ago - really no joke. I asked them last week why the problem is still on going sin...

Oh. Well I guess they have to complain about something. As it is now, the way I see it, Solar is cheaper than grid power. So it just a case of people to transition to renewable power. Well in Australia that is. Gas is dead, coal power is dead, nuclear is dead. If the factories generating the product...

I think I'm up to like 5 years.
I have done stuff to the Handi since but not updated the thread.
Poor Handi.
Given how little I have left to do I really need to kick myself in the a$$ for not finishing it already.

Will you strip down your bike to put the parts in the CRX?

It wont be long before you either drive an e-car or don't drive at all.

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

With mains coming out of the box small 240V Relays can be used to isolate the mains and the car is HV safe while charging.
Unless the charger can go in the battery box its best to have the contactor(s) on the HV lines as you have drawn.

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

Why not put the charger in the battery box before the main contactor?
Then you only have mains going in and HV coming out of the box.

Here's another coming out of the woodwork. http://hycarbinc.com/about/ So this Company Hycarb is on the verge of making carbon based buttons cells that supposedly have 5x the energy density as the lithium rechargeable. Their plan is then to move on to pouch cells that are 10kWh in capacity then MWh ...
