perhaps I should have said power instead of torque then, nevertheless the idea is that fewer of the 32 coils firing at full power is more efficient than more firing at lesser power? I thought that was the idea in the new arrangement that was a new way of saving energy. Sort of like skipping controll...

The savings on part load are from being able to use a smaller number of the available coils at full power rather than running them all at fractional power thus improving efficiency at lower torque levels

They have arrived and Batrium have made a special board for the BMS to match. Handy that the cases came with them, looking forward to finishing the suzuki carry (bongo van) now.

shame you didn't get the motor with the shaft sticking out the other end hydraulic regen is twice as efficient as electric and very simple using a gear pump/motor and electric/magnetic AC clutch and a reservoir/accumulator and tubing. perhaps a belt could run off the coupler and go through gaps in t...

I thought somewhere we could post news on research developments and cool newfangled gizmos might be a good thread to have going. I found a couple of hub motors being made; http://www.proteanelectric.com/en/video-gallery/in-wheel-motor-video-series/?img=1229&gal=1228 http://peterharris.org.uk/roa...

the cheap inverters from china on ebay have a very high idle current. Solar paint isn't as efficient as the monocrystalline semi-flexible solar panels we have now but as far as covering the bits left over on the tight contours it would help. anyone got a gas powered micro turbine aircraft alternator...

New Solar Panel Setup Suggestions
I have just moved house and am now off grid, the stand alone solar setup is inadequate to charge my almost 25kWh pack so I am looking at using syngas from a biochar retort to run a 1942 petter generator at night and a green steam engine (under construction) with a fresnel lens from a rearlight tv in...

I agree on the ugly comment but a lot of people love it and it sure turns heads (might be the exhaust leak though) It is a bit scary over 90kmph being an early 60s setup and it is very light. I had to change the fat rims on front due to extreme under-steer on the dirt and that helped. Needs lots of ...

I like the concept of the Atom but it is a bit ugly, no roof is kind of limiting too. I wonder what would a naked atom be, without the exhaust and motor and radiator....just the spaceframe and interior and bodypanels maybe? the axiom guys quoted me 28000 for an unpowered shell if I sourced my own (p...

btw I have a beetle floorpan and a 2E fiberglass kit on the back-burner, it was very cheap and I agree the light weight, manual steering, availability of parts, simplicity, tractability of this highly desirable and customisable proven platform is pretty ideal. I was thinking of getting some leaf cells, new from salvaged Nissan Leafs. 2S-2P 7.2V 55Ah each at $85 plus freight, a pallet load would make freight about 800 to brisbane. I don't need a whole pallet. Room for anyone else to jump a ride for their pack. They can come as blocks of 8 ready to mount up...

I had no idea a ups could be so little, seems a good way to regulate charge, I figured a rectified pmg such as from a wind turbine is very light for the output, coupled with a small motor with peltier generator units on the exhaust to charge the car up dc directly and for regeneration have it driven...

I have to wonder why use an a standard generator when a much lighter and more efficient package could be made using a wind turbine permanent magnet generator and a small motor. I was also interested in how the dc output voltage is regulated for charging, seems wasteful to me to step up to 240 just t...
