Electrikhana 2016!

As you may know, Peter and I have been designing, building and racing electric cars and bikes for the past 7 years competing interstate in the ITC Global Electric Vehicle Challenge and also the Hunter Valley Electric Vehicle Festival EV Prize. This has always just been a very expensive hobby for us,...

Coast and Burn (Pulse and Glide) Calculator

I've been doing some research on efficient driving techniques for our electric endurance vehicle and in the process ended up creating a Calculator in excel for determining whether a Coast and Burn (a.k.a Pulse and Glide) strategy is more efficient in an EV than maintaining a constant speed. If you'd...

Electrikhana 2016!

Hi Greg, The venue is out by the airport so there isn't really accom. within walking distance. Shoot me a private message and I can pick you up and drive you out to the venue :) I'd recommend looking for motel or hotel accom. on Great Eastern Highway. Decent public transport (buses) and cheap-ish pl...

Electrolux for sale

Hi Antiscab,

Would you consider selling the batteries on their own?

$30 - Medium Sized Gokart Seat

Our vehicle is all about aerodynamics with the highest point being 700mm above the ground so high in that way, but who knows what the resin would do? :P

Yeah Perth sorry :/

$150 o.n.o Alltrax 4834 DC Motor Controller

I've had this trusty controller since 2010 and it's done it's fair share of work. Still going strong but I've moved on to Brushless DC motors and so can't really use it anymore. Looking for $150 as they go for $456 at EV Works here in Perth and I really need the cash to continue development of my ve...

$30 - Medium Sized Gokart Seat

Bought a medium sized gokart seat for my endurance vehicle and discovered it made the driver too high. Didn't drill it or make any alterations from brand new and yet I wasn't able to return it.. :(

Cost me $75, selling for $30 o.n.o

Australia's Most Efficient Manned Land Vehicle

Thanks Chris,

The eV Challenge Committee will be down in force again. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help organise the event.

Is it alright to launch the car at some point during the day? It's under wraps until then but all I can say is aerodynamics and Carbon Fibre :)

Australia's Most Efficient Manned Land Vehicle

It took ages to upload in HD but here is the full efficiency run with the telemetry displayed at the end as well for verification. We're going out on track in early February to try and achieve 5wH/km before doing a large upgrade. The car is capable of more than the 32 kph average it is holding, achi...

Australia's Most Efficient Manned Land Vehicle

I'm still trying to overlay our telemetry onto our full efficiency run, however here is an onboard video of a quicker run that we did after the efficiency attempt.

We will be unveiling the car at the 2016 Electrikhana in March :)

Preface: I usually don't contribute unless I actually know as much as those around me and so I'm usually more of an observer than an active poster on this forum. However, I've been learning from all of you, the internet and through trial and error by entering the Perth Electric Vehicle Challenge sin...

FIA Formula E Championship

Speed (and noise) attracts fans, fans attract advertisers and sponsors which gives teams more money to go even faster with. Therefore given the lack of noise (a better noise needs to be worked on though), the emphasis needs to be on shorter but much faster races. Give teams a set amount of battery ...

FIA Formula E Championship

I personally believe that Formula E would be better off running two or even four 10 lap races at full speed than trying to conserve power. They could use the second car for the second race while fast charging the first car for the 3rd race etc. A lot more high speed racing for fans and draws it out ...

For Sale - Alltrax SPM Controller & 6kW DC motor

Items: Due to a change in EV challenge vehicle drivetrain and low sponsorship, I am selling; 1. An Alltrax 24 - 48 V, 400A DC motor controller. I believe it is one of the only ones in Australia as I ordered it direct. Highly programmable (will supply USB 2 programming cable) and pretty light at 2.7 ...

Thanks Bluefang for the feedback.

Just trying to research it all before I fully throw myself into it, I'm sure there is heaps of information online regarding the regulations, just very hard to know where to look first.

Cheers,

James

Street Legal Electric Motorbike

It appears to me that the ICV scheme is only for once off bikes, surely there must be an Australian manufacturer of motorbikes. The basic philosophy behind my design is building a chassis/frame that is specifically for electric motorbike use and hence doesn't have any superfluous parts. Previous tes...

Unfortunately I won't be able to go under the ICV scheme either, well I could be not worthwhile unless it helps with the process of getting a production bike signed off. Without going into too much detail I am designing a super light, electric motorbike with a range of ~200 km when ridden at highway...

Just wondering if anybody knows, or can point me towards, the Australian Design Rules for a motorcycle and in particular construction of frames/chassis.

Cheers,

You're more than welcome Chris for the track time yesterday. Let me know if you need track time again soon, much support and admiration for your work among all the motorsport guys at the centre! Sorry I wasn't able to get it for you for free yesterday. 190-195 kph half way down a 600m reasonably low...
