Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

The main difference being that the city cycle includes a lot more acceleration and braking being stop start. Acceleration is where most of the fuel gets used, accelerate to speed, coast to a stop and repeat every few hundred metres. If you could travel at 50km/h consistently in city traffic it woul...

Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

I guess you're talking about a square-rigger going directly into the wind when you mention the Ranger, and the Hilux will be driving big tyres, heavy build and poor streamlining. The Elantra is made to carry people and seems to have been made to appeal to people who care about fuel-consumption. I ra...

Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

The cars available today - Hyundai Kona, Tesla Model S/X/3 are all capable of meeting the needs of much more than 50% of the car driving population in Australia now. The only question to my mind is upfront cost - how low does it have to be for the majority of people to get onboard. We've seen with ...

Re: Newbie question about practicalities of charging and range

I'm all for EV's but just noting that our 6 year old Elantra manual goes down to somewhere like 5.4 l/100 at highway speeds (not sure about A/C use after all this time and up to high 9's around town.

Re: First Zoe Service!

Hi, With my imiev, I've taken up the advice I see here and go to less than 10 km range once a month and then fully charge the car so that the drive batteries will balance (right?). Less than 10 km indicated range is when the fuel indicator and the battery indicator are both flashing. Because I gener...

Re: Two chargers blow simultaneously.

This is part of the reason I decided to abandon the Blade cars. The TC chargers blew too often and at $1300 is it a time? This is why I am a little anxious with any modern ev, what with the imiev costing $4500 if the charger blows, it really plays havoc with the low cost potential of good technology...

Well good. Just use the links others have provided and fit one. I wish you well with your aim of getting an EV. I hope you pay attention when driving . Please don't assume that I share your fears (or apparent fears). Some messages here really don't ring true and some could have been taken from the p...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

Well good. Just use the links others have provided and fit one :) My "freeway" suggestion is only so you can be immersed in conventional vehicle noise and be more at home with the safety of it all. Or, you could try a really truly EV and have NO SOUND at all. Ah, pure bliss. I have wondered what the...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

Listen dear sir (public friendly term adjusted), I drive a Prius too. If you're driving at 40 kph, your motor is more-likely running. Stop the bu*l sh8t and let an ev be just another car on the road. Otherwise, sound generators for pedestrians, push bike riders, ice cars sitting at lights with motor...

Oh HeadsUp, I apologise for mixing you totally up with Randall679. You got some inappropriate attention from me because I mixed up what he started. However, since I got you going, what I just wrote above is still the state of play. Sorry to tar you with the doubt I formed from the initial message. I...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

So no ev then? I'm thinking that. You know the Star Wars films where the planet view is environmentally shot and there's all these tall buildings, probably with air-con (and very good filters). That's how we can fix this world. Always have a special A/C intake filter and use recirc only as an improv...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

Ok, I'll put this up front. What you wrote is really really silly :) :)

You say change the INTAKE FILTER in order to have NO PROBLEM with the visible and invisible shut that EXITS the exhaust....

By the way, what ev do you drive? Others will know.

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

by Randall679 » 05 Sep 2018 15:50 Has anyone found a digital sound generator that can be retrofit to an EV? I’ve nearly been skittled by hybrids in EV mode ... and sadistic neighbor with a Tesla S. Most new EVs have them as they are required by law in some countries. As usual, I can't let this one g...

Ok I see where you're coming from :)

I'd change the topic to "Retrofit sound generator for all road vehicles" and then I'd be happy :)

I could never drive an EV. They're dangerous and kill people without warning LOOKOUT!!

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

OR, we could have someone walk in front of an ev holding a red flag. Personally,my approach is to put the responsibility on the EV driver in the same way that driving any other type of vehicle is. If you ride a motorcycle, you have to assume that all road users and pedestrians are not intelligently ...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Yes. I do treat this car like a go kart that is quiet and you only have to push the pedal for it to magically go. I only have short distances and it is perfect. I now have to have an electric car as my personal car. I feel ill at ease thinking about the alternative. When you believe that a car is so...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Well, I regret to say I saw the car! icon again this afternoon after two days free of it. I know I have 14.4V going into the 12V when the car is charging, and similar to the 12V when the car is turned on. It looks like I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Just noting that the car can creep forwar...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Hi, I took my imiev to the local mitsubishi dealer this morning for the car! symbol error and turtle symbol(not sure if all the time). They called back to 'clarify' a few things. They said that there were no errors showing (I presume after they connected up the electronic device) and asked me if I h...

Hi
This is what I understand the Prius is doing. It regens on light brake application and then moves on to mechanical braking beyond that.

dgh853, This TheBikeShow roadtest comparo has a different slant on the one you show with the comment on a bmw and which one is better. It's the feel as much as the figures. The H2 is very limited but the feeling of ridiculous urge is always there, low revs just promise even more with every 500 revs....

Hi dgh853 :) No worries. While I'd like to have a Zero, your information has always occupied my worry zone in regard to these bikes, thinking about Vectrix and any other EV, not warmly welcomed into the country by all and sundry. I've always thought: What happens if the charger fails, what happens i...

Re: i-MiEV not charging, high voltage warning light and battery

Yes, Mike, if the 12V was the first thing they looked at, it's probably how it seems to you all.
My only final point is that a new fully charged 12V is the first thing to do in this situation.
Anything not new needs to be load-tested at least. Good luck :)

Re: How does one buy a Zero in Australia?

Well, yes, this discussion point is rubbish, isn't it. The Zero would go around a corner faster than a H2. I'd say the Zero would be faster at the standing start because of the combination of light weight and constant controllable power. The H2 could use its launch control but it usually wouldn't in...
