Electric Trikes for Road Use
I thought the motor power limit was 200 W, Australia-wide? Is WA different in this regard? How easy would it be to just put any sticker on an unmarked Chinese motor, though!? LOL http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36.gif Where did you source your info originally, please? I'd like to follow that...

Electric Trikes for Road Use
Since my last post I have experimented with my Chinese trikes and re-discovered some previously held knowledge about electric motors ... namely you may operate them at whatever voltage suits you with the following provisos. 1. NEVER let the motor temperature exceed the melting point of the wire insu...

Inverter for Pool Pump
A 'Modified Sine wave" (read 'Pulse wave' or more correctly, 'modified square wave') inverter will make your motor run about seven to ten percent hotter than it otherwise might do. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley18.gif This will impact on its life-span a little, but since it cost no...

Electric Trikes for Road Use
The ingenuity of people continues to amaze me !! I would never have thought to use an alternator like that.

I agree with the bounding along, Richo. I've been looking at how you might change the gait but it wouldn't be that easy with Theo's mechanism, however, Klann's mechanism (Spider) might be simpler to modify for that method of locomotion.

Electric Vehicle Definition
What defines an 'Electric Vehicle' ? Is it merely a mechanism to carry people that is powered by electricity? Or should it also have wheels? Can a vehicle without wheels be registered for the road or be defined as an 'electric vehicle'? I am debating (especially with the 'Financial Controller' in ou...

Electric Trikes for Road Use
Thanks for those tips, Woody ! I've looked into them and I'm considering the options. I have been involved, off and on, with a motor-bike dealership (old family friend) and a well known Swan Valley electric vehicle entrepreneur to try and modify a 50cc motor scooter for electric operation. In the co...

Burnouts in an electric drag car
If you have an electronic controller, you might use a simple, outboard, electronic circuit with a couple of cheap op amps to modify the 0 to 5volt output of the throttle pot/hall effect sensor so as to allow any one of a number of selectable ramp times. The modifying voltage would be the RPM output ...

Electric Trikes for Road Use
Has anyone here done anything with electric trikes registerable for road use? I'm retired and live in the Perth Hills area. That last sentence puts my problems up front. I don't want to pedal the thing and you need considerable power to get up some of the hills out here. I have purchased two "Y...

Ebike Power limits, proposed legislation
I agree with Gow864 ! I, too, live in a hilly area east of Perth AND I'm no longer in the 'first bloom of youth'. I think a speed limit would be much more appropriate; say, 50 kph in towns and built up areas and maybe 70 kph outside built up areas. That way the purists can pedal if they like and us ...

What limits an E-bike power?
"What limits motor Power"? The answer to that, as for most things electronic/electrical, is heat. You can up the voltage to the point just below where the insulation starts to melt and the motor will run, but it gets hotter the more load (= more current) you put on it until something melts...
