Kia Pregio - Thomas
Going to keep the gearbox and clutch - I don't trust the synchros on the Kia gearbox. Overdrive units don't have enough of a spread in the ratios to give me decent take-off. I need 1:2 for a first gear and 1:1.4 for a second. That'll take me up to 71km/h at 3000rpm. Adapter plate to be made out of s...

Direct drive with 20% reduction gear
Looks like you're right Johny. If I keep the gearbox it'll probably pull nicely around 1:2 to start and 1:1.3 to cruise up to 90km/h. Maybe third and fourth.

Direct drive with 20% reduction gear
Hi Johny
Thanks for your help, I've got the spec sheet. You're right, it is 280nm. Rated torque is 140nm.
Max power 59kw. Continuous shaft power 25kw at 1500 to 2500rpm.
Cheers

Direct drive with 20% reduction gear
http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/1817/1.2_reduction_gear.png My average speed around town (won't be going further than that) is 50kmh on a good day. Legal limit anywhere is 90kmh. Any need to bother with a gearbox? I'm wondering if the efficiency gained by only using a reduction gear would make it...

On the road data - Goldenmotor 500w
Was your’s a front or rear hub motor? Front What effect did the extra weight in the hub have on the handling of the bike? the battery must be on if the motor is spinning at more than a few rpm , otherwise the controller gets toasted. So being a direct drive hub motor, it drags even when you're on a ...

In case it's useful to anyone wanting to buy: Goldenmotor 500w 36v 16Ah. Mtb, slick on the front and knobbly on the back. Front hub motor. MUST get a torque arm - ebikekit.com sells a good one. Kia Pregio - Thomas
Bearing in mind that where I live there are lots of potholes and the legal limit is 90km/h. http://ecomodder.com/forum/tool-aero-rolling-resistance.php Says I'll need 15kw to do 90km/h, my desired max speed. According to the power/rpm curve the motor makes 39kw at 3000rpm. If I use a 10% reduction g...

Thanks KDRyan. Ranger underdrive is at 17%.
The diff ratio is currently 3.7 if my sums are right. That would mean I need a 60% underdrive to have 1500rpm at 20kmh if I ditch the 5 speed gearbox, and fit it: motor > overdrive > driveshaft > diff? Tyre circumference is 2.06m.

Removing the Diesel Adapter plate Removing the Diesel http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/1817/IMG_0545.jpg The cardboard box has the diameter of the AC55 motor on each side. It needs to sit all the way down onto the chassis crosspiece, otherwise there's no space for the inverter on top. Adapter plate...

This one is on a diesel motor, but it's the simplest and cheapest joint I've seen that has a bit of room for misalignment.

Don't I? :) I'll need some sort of vacuum pump. I haven't looked around here yet, maybe the simplest will be to buy a 12v from EV Works. I'd like to avoid shipping more stuff in if I can. The DC to DC can apparently handle a few accessories and charge a 12v battery simultaneously. I'll go around som...

Not much space in the engine bay. I need to put in an auxiliary motor of 3kw or so to run aircon, brakes and power steering. So we're looking for a way to do without the bell housing and save 200mm or so. The engineer suggests a new gearbox input shaft. It would fit inside the gearbox as normal but ...

Electric Air-conditioning capacity?
I notice that nobody even suggests keeping the belt-driven ICE accessories and running them off an extra motor of 2kw or so. Anybody suggest how big an auxiliary motor for power steering, brakes and aircon should be and how much improvement I would get by using 12v components for these? Thanks a lot...

Doing a Pregio only. Hope to be pulling out the diesel tomorrow morning and measuring up the adapter and engine bay batt packs. Probably not use the clutch since it's AC and won't need the extra emergency cutoff that a clutch would provide. I'll use the clutch plate as part of the adapter assembly f...

it's going into a Kia Pregio van. I'm keeping the clutch. Hopefully going to pull the diesel engine out next week, so I'm looking for a drawing to get me started. Thanks Richo. I'll measure the headroom. Please comment... 1. With LiFePo I understand that they don't vent toxic gas in normal operation or if they rupture, so the Prius uses cabin air to cool it's pack. 2. Since I live in a very wet area I'd like to use cabin air since it'll be via the aircon all ...

Does anybody have drawings for clutch adapter that's been fabricated?
I guess they're all roughly the same idea. I'll have to pull out the diesel motor in the donor vehicle and have a look at the clutch anyway, but any drawings might help.
Thanks
Thomas

My first conversion - all help appreciated :) It's a Kia van. Total 100 x 100ah HiPower cells. The odd distribution is to accommodate the crosspieces on the chassis. Hi everyone I'm looking at getting a Nazia Ria as a donor, otherwise known as a Kia Carnival. Got ground clearance of 171mm, but if I remove the exhaust I would like to try putting some batteries in the empty space underneath. These China HiPower 100ah need 218mm. Can I clamp the batteries with the ...
