Re: e-nv200

It would need around double that range to be of much use for us out here in the sticks at Mannum so we could use it as a utility type vehicle for the business to travel to Adelaide and back. They mention a 7 hr recharge time to get another 130km, I'm hoping there would be a faster charging option av...

Re: Off-grid solar diagram / ideas

We actually do this stuff as a business but mostly RV stuff like house boats, motorhomes and caravans. We have done a few house jobs as well, the latest is a total off grid mansion of a holiday house built to cope with 5 families over the summer holidays and always someone there all yr. Still fine t...

Re: Aust. Auto Aftermarket article on Batteries and EV's

Just thinking out loud here looking for input from those that know about this stuff. Would it be possible to link a second battery pack into the output side of the on-board charger? Or is the drive part disabled when an input is sensed on the battery charging circuit? The though was a constant charg...

Re: Emergency spare wheel

The quick plug repair is ok to get you to a tyre repair place but they don't really meet the legal requirements for a tyre repair. The tyre mobs take the tyre off the rim and fit a large area patch with the teat in the centre that sticks through from the inside of the tyre plugging the hole and seal...

One of the attached photos shows the rear retractable seat belt for the outer seats so just like any other rear seat belt set up by the look of it. 170km range is still a bit light on but the 122km/h top speed is fine. I wonder if a battery upgrade would be possible to increase the range, it would m...

Re: Off-grid solar diagram / ideas

Terry, I think you need to be careful about putting panels in parallel. I have read a few articles on the need for blocking diodes to prevent shaded panels from sinking current from generating panels. https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/diode/bypass-diodes.html I have bought 25 250 watt panels rec...

Re: Off-grid solar diagram / ideas

I've decided to start three threads on how the keen amongst us might set up a solar + storage system. Pending further input from the brainstrust here, this would be a fairly sensible way to do it: An off-grid setup: offgrid%20setup.png The PV array is set up as three panels in series, and as many o...

I wonder if Renault will have a roadside assistance service like many other makers are starting to offer. Then if the compressor or a combination or sealant and compressor can't get you out of trouble, will they either bring a spare or tow/tilt-tray you to the workshop to get another tyre fitted. On...

Re: MX-5 Hybrid conversion

In a manual box it shouldn't be an issue. You can flat tow a manual with out any traumas. There should still be enough oil splashing around to keep things lubed and with a small battery pack it's not like it'll be 100's of kilometres as ev only. In neutral none of the gears are actually turning whe...

Re: MX-5 Hybrid conversion

Is the idea to uncouple the electric motor from the gearbox output shaft for pure EV driving? Simply selecting neutral in the gearbox without the ICE running will result in a seized up gearbox fairly quickly because the lubrication requires splash feed created by the ICE spinning the input shaft. CSIRO announce quite some time ago that they were working on this. They weren't specific in that article what they had achieved recently. I'm guessing it's that they have a prototype to show people - one step up from vapourware. You'd hope that it would "rival our LNG export industry." That's the w...

There's a fellow who actually did that, by putting in 3 x Tesla 5.5kwh modules in.
Interesting, not sure I could get away with another project just at the moment but just maybe .......

Re: Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

I wonder what capacity the battery is I'm always leary when manufacturers quote range, more so on bikes. The range at 40kmh is irrelevant, its the one at 100kmh that matters having said that, now that we're able to fit 16kwh in a bike, even 200km range is possible What would a Vectrix go like with ...

There are a lot of lithium add-on packs and DIY upgrades around and being so cheap to buy the whole thing you could just transplant all the gear into the mini ..... then you could post photos so I can look at doing s...

Hi Graham and welcome to the forum. Getting enough batteries into a mini to give you a reasonable speed and range would be a challenge. The Moke has room to spare but a mini? The fact they almost sit on the ground as an ICE powered unit I'm not sure how they'd go with the weight of a battery pack ei...

No not offgrid this time around. The long term cost to be off grid isn't viable due to battery cost. The grid is only 140m away and less than 20k to connect. Not sure on that Kurt, sent you a PM, the fees for being connected to the grid over here are a tad savage so you need to factor that cost in ...

Hi This is what I understand the Prius is doing. It regens on light brake application and then moves on to mechanical braking beyond that. The 2008 ex taxi Prius we have is kinda strange when it comes to regen braking and creep. At low speed crawling sometimes simply touching the brake pedal will s...

It does, but I was planning on putting a plate a cross with a bearing on the oily side. Im not sure how much thrust the motor will take through...

So my plan I'd to weld a coupling to that from the clutch side and mount the motor where the clutch was. Exactly like most other installs. Doesn't the crankshaft act as the bearing support for the drive gear/spline piece that passes through the seal in the case? There would be a lot of pressure try...

Good question for a first post Jason, I hope you get an answer soon so I'll know as well.
