Re: Universal Road User Charge - Poll.

You will never stop the anti EV, or anti wind turbine or anti solar farm or anti anything that those with vested interests can stir up trouble to get supporters on their side ..... it will just shift to "Yet another tax forced on us because of the EV getting a foothold and govt support" bu...

Where are the maglev trains?

If we had a single rail hover type train that linked the capital cities, a lot of road freight could go by rail. Quick over night trains that diverted to a siding to drop off carriages of freight for that area and while they were off the track, the train on the return journey could pass through. Onc...

Re: Universal Road User Charge - Poll.

Collect the road tax at rego time, but it goes in a fund structured the same as the CTP (compulsory third party (person not property) insurance) where money can only be accessed on a case by case basis where it can be proved that money is required and will be used for maintenance of existing roads m...

Re: High Voltage / Low Current DC Fuses, what do you use?

Successful fusing relies on appropriate cable sizing too. If the cable supplying the current isn't rated for the task, it will probably catch fire before it pops. Well, maybe to other way around, the appropriate fuse for the cable it is trying to protect, after all, that is the purpose of the fuse,...

Re: High Voltage / Low Current DC Fuses, what do you use?

This might help, the last bit on page 3 is the critical one, voltage rating for DC is higher than the voltage rating for AC because the arc is constant and ionises the air within the fuse and that can carry a lot of current if the voltage is high enough. Even fusible links have a voltage limit when ...

Sweet option Terry. I demand a photo of this bread loaf! Re: Are updates a nightmare for the dealer?

Once the dealership workshop job description moved from "remove and replace" to actual computer program upgrading to fix manufacturer problems, the house of cards is about to collapse. Unless the manufacturer is willing to pay and pay well to have their stuff-ups sorted, the whole model wi...

Welcome to the forum. I think the first place to start is the rego mob. What do they want and who do they approve to do it. They should have this sort of advice on line somewhere, but good luck navigating any of those govt sites. I'm sure there are a few members on here that have done their own EV c...

Re: Are updates a nightmare for the dealer?

Yes Terry, I can just imagine the pita this business delivers to the less than enthusiastic service guys who are worried enough about their futures in ‘the game’. The other problem is how their renumeration is organised. The base pay is pitiful, they make up their money in bonuses, but bonuses are ...

Re: Are updates a nightmare for the dealer?

The manufacturer can be as much of cause as to why the dealerships are not keen on installing updates. Apparently, it can use up 3 hrs of a technician's time to install updates in an MG4, there are path choices every so often that need to be navigated to get the required updates installed and what b...

A member of a motorhoming forum I once belonged to, built a chiller out of a ice maker he found on a roadside chuck out. Re: Charging whilst driving

The induction charging pads would be a better choice to spend the money on. When fleets go full EV, the charging cords will become an issue and already, the different plugs and position of the plug in point on the vehicle can cause issues gaining accessibility to the charger. If areas in carparks ha...

Thanks, I was looking at using the on board BMS, a DC circuit breaker as the manual on/off switch and either diodes or a "perfect diode" circuit to prevent reverse flow .... might just be easier to charge via a granny charger from the 5 kva inverter. Just looked up the cost of the CCS 2 pl...

DC charging from home solar

This is a, "what do I need to do to make it plug and play" for the MG4 charging point (I'm guessing it is CCS type for the DC) type question. I'm assuming there is some sort of handshake required, and the DC current does not need to be a minimum value, the limit would more be the upper val...

Re: Nearly there (fuel efficiency)

They came up with the same B/S when unleaded fuel was introduced, but we still had cars to buy. If it really does limit the overseas imports, it might leave a spot for an Aust car maker to get into the market, even if it's converting LHD to RHD initially. What the car manufacturers are really p*ssed...

Re: Nearly there (fuel efficiency)

Rural uptake of EVs is slow, but not because of the long distances - big range batteries and DC chargers can, and will fix that. It's just that most rural postcodes are poor. Poor people don't buy expensive cars (new or used). Unless there's a business tax break for rural Australians to buy an elec...

Natural gas (methane) works as a great substitute fuel for diesel, and can be made synthetically or pulled out of the coal mines on a safety basis, we will keep selling coal overseas, the country's economy can't afford not to cash in on what it can dig up ..... Hydrogen can be split from waste water...
