EV-Power - experiences?

Anyone dealt with EV-power recently? I'll be looking to get a price on some NCM cells and a watercooled ME motor for a motorcycle conversion. Any good/bad experiences with pricing, shipping, etc. welcome.

Anyone used NCM (3.7V) cells in an EV? Thoughts?

These cells are shown on EVPower's website (Shenzhen Westart I think). Advantage is higher voltage (fewer cells in a pack); disadvantage appears to be limited discharge current to 2C or less. Anyone used them, imported or bought them? Any other sources known?

Any problems paralleling strings of cells in practice? I can imagine all sorts of problems with unbalanced strings trying to charge each other - are protection diodes or other forms of isolation used?

E-motorbike conversion and rego issues

I'm thinking an ME1616 motor (watercooled, 20kW) and 72 or 84V worth of NCM cells, if I can fit them into the frame (big if). Anyone managed to snag these recently, and at what price? I notice EVPower is advertising 72Ah versions available.

I'd be interested, as with others, what he has to say. Even if it just general advice. OK, I just spoke to Earl and he was very helpful. He requires a description of the bike (model/year) and list of major components used for the conversion. Based on inspections along the way, he prepares a report ...

E-motorbike conversion and rego issues

It's a version of an earlier motor (can't recall the number, sorry) which has twice the number of windings, one set on each side of the rotor magnets. They are axial flux motors, so the magnets are on a disc rotor. Not sure if the later motors follow this pattern though, but judging by the low windi...

E-motorbike conversion and rego issues

All well and good if you live in WA... when I spoke to engineers who had approved car conversions, and also their QLD Transport counterparts, there was much head scratching. Nobody seemed to have a better answer than "build it first and we'll see what happens", which is not on when you're talking ab...

Has anyone got rego on a motorbike conversion recently? Looked into the rego aspect for EV bikes a couple of years ago (I am in Qld). Seemed that there is no well defined process to get engineers approval for a modification like there is for cars (NCOP14). Basically anything you do to a bike makes i...

Looked into the rego aspect for EV bikes a couple of years ago (I am also in Qld). Seems that there is no well defined process to get engineers approval for a modification like there is for cars (NCOP14). Basically anything you do to a bike makes it an ICV, and there are open-ended costs and time sp...

Street Legal Electric Motorbike

Last time I checked (Qld dept transport, 2013) NCOP14 did not apply to bikes. Anything you do to a bike makes it an ICV. I gave up at that point because it appeared that getting rego was an open ended process in nbotyh time and cost with no guarantee of success. I would like to hear from someone who...

Anyone converted a Getz?

I have a nice low-km 2009 Getz here which I've inherited. Apart from Ross Blade (who does not seem to do parts) has anyone converted one of these? Looking for sources of bits (adapter plates, etc) and general advice on handling this particular car.

Anyone built a BLDC controller?

I have done this many years ago. It was based on an MC33035 BLDC controller chip and some 100A mosfets. The motor was a car alternator with opto pickups for the sensors. It worked up to 36V but had a few limitations - getting the high side mosfets to turn off quickly was a pain as the voltage increa...

ACIM, PMAC, PMDC motor efficiency and EVs

Interesting point about eddy current losses in a large PM motor at speed; what do the Mars/Agni/Emrax users think? It must depend on the quality of the stator laminations and the symmetry of the windings (and circulating currents, if the motor is wound in delta)

Hi 89rx0ff, Have you uncovered any more information on getting a e-motorcycle registered in the meantime? Like you, I'd really like to do one, but have been put off by the seemingly open-ended costs of compliance, lack of any precedent from engrs, and lack of certainty from QT. I really need a bit m...

10KW BLDC FROM GOLDEN MOTOR Model HPM-10kw

Alternatives:
Mars ME0913 double-sided BLDC (or 1003 brushed for the same power/weight)
ENRAX
Agni
Better with sinewave controller than switched BLDC, I don't know what Golden's controller is like.

Ebike Power limits, proposed legislation

Come to think of it, I doubt they would pass legislation that makes all existing ebikes illegal. There would have to be a transition period at least. Perhaps I'm making the error of assuming they are at all organised about it - the best thing to do is probably to not get caught up the legal drama an...

This small BLDC/PMSM motor powers an electric plane. It can take off from the ground! Specs are impressive: similar size/shape to an Agni, 11kg, 30kW continuous claimed. http://www.enstroj.si/Electric-products/emrax-motors.html No idea on price from the makers. Mars Electric sent me this reply to an enquiry about the ME1003. It seems that the brushes were the weak link in the 709 and they have beefed them up. --------------------------------------------------- The ME0709 and the ME1003 motors have the same armature. Armature Resistance is 0.012 Ohms. The d...
