Re: Floride conversion

Wow! (S)he's a beauty! Yes WA has fairly easy to follow regs around car modifications. In general it's easier if the car is still licensed at the time of modification, but I don't think that's as bad as it used to be. The registration of intent is all about ensuring you don't waste your time and mon...

Would love to have seen the SEA truck and van - perfect for most city logistics!

Re: BMW Australia cancels future EVs to Oz

It's not really fair that their decision to boycott is based on a demand from government. Government doesn't care.
The only one who suffers is us, the consumer :(

Re: Diesel generator + Tesla vs Diesel car

I think that was the intention. However from what Rob told me the driving conditions were near perfect, and both vehicles were using very little energy. They'd averaged 145 Wh/km even when driving at 110 km/h everywhere, so that 18 kWh wasn't used entirely. It would be difficult to recharge the car ...

Diesel generator + Tesla vs Diesel car

Brought to you by the AEVA :)

Only thing worth doing now is to see how much diesel is required to recharge the car to the same SOC (which is hard to do).

Re: Converting petrol quad bike to EV

So a quick look at EV Album shows quite a few ATVs which have been converted to electric. http://www.evalbum.com/type/ATVU Several of them are running higher voltages, but that's for top speeds of 65 km/h - if you were content to roll around at 40 km/h then a 48 V system would be fine. The other joy...

Re: Converting petrol quad bike to EV

Hi Tony,
I'll reply in detail in a little while but there are a few bikes out there to get inspired by. Going 48 volts is a good idea too, samv voltage as the house so if a charger fails you can use a spare.

Western Australia - Renault Zoe Group Buy!

Great news for West Australians! Sandra Giry from Synergy has been pounding the pavement and ringing Renault representatives all the way to the top so that we can finally get some Zoes and Kangoo ZE's into WA. Great news is they will do a group purchase through Melville Renault! Please get in touch ...

I'm going to order 5 sets of 50 mm2, 2-pin, 90 degree HVSL1000 plugs and receptacles to match. If anybody needs one get in touch and I should have a spare to sell.

Cheers,

One of the coolest conversion projects we seen in recent years. I know it would be a pest to transcribe, but perhaps a condensed version in three or four posts would be all we need? I did that with my race bike build in the Member's machines sub-forum. Might be worth adding it there?

Re: Odometer tax?

I actually did an interview with ABC Darwin about this issue, and the announcer kept suggesting that EV owners were free-loading, or being subsidised... About 6000 plug-in vehicles in a fleet of over 13 million, and somehow we're responsible for the decline in road revenues! While I suggested most o...

Re: Odometer tax?

A statement on the ABC story can be found here:
http://www.aeva.asn.au/content/evs-and-road-use-charges

basically, we think it's fair that everybody contributes to road maintenance, but we've also paid a small fortune for our EVs already, so come back when EVs make up more than 5% of the fleet.

Perhaps the most disingenuous headline from the ABC? More like, "Breaking the road revenue model" I guess.
