Re: Chris' E-Max 110S (Pb to Li)

The tubes are kind of hard to find. The valve stems are offset making them a little unique.
Tubeless would make for an easier tyre change anyway.

Re: WA Branch Meetings 2017

Hi Everyone, WA branch meeting will be held at 7 pm in the Billings Room, level 3 of the UWA Electrical Engineering building. We have LOTS to talk about, as well as some exciting news about Renault Zoes and Kangoos for WA. If you want one, let us know ASAP so we can convince them to bring a hundred ...

Re: Chris' E-Max 110S (Pb to Li)

I'm keen to make the rear tyre a tubeless affair. Will have to buy a stack of that green tyre sealant and get busy with it.

Cracked headstocks, flat tyres...

Okay, so it's time for an update on the scooter and it's most recent issues. This will serve as a warning to other E-max 110S owners too. Katherine took the scooter to work one morning and only a few hundred meters into the trip the steering felt very heavy and unresponsive. Not knowing what was wro...

Re: Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

More likely battery power, or the lack of it, from the original Vectrix pack.
Yes, this would be registered as a motorcycle, but only an RE class (LAMS approved).

Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

Fonz X1.jpg Sydney-based Fonzarelli electric scooters have unveiled their Fonz X1 scooter at the Sydney motorcycle expo. Apparently it's got a 13 kW hub motor, top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 150 km. They also have their regular Fonz scooters which run a 72 volt Li-ion battery and a ~4 kW hub ...

Re: 2nd Hand LEAF

Personally I don't believe any used Leaf in Australia should be sold for more than $20k. They are already >5 years old and the batteries will have deteriorated at least enough to be annoying, and at worst, not enough for your daily needs. It will still function perfectly well as a city car, but they...

Albany Highway now electrified!

We installed a 32 amp, three phase socket in Kojonup this weekend! Ali Geoff Matt Kojonup sml.jpg https://www.plugshare.com/location/136789 Where the hell is Kojonup? It's on the Albany Highway and is one of the two main towns to stop in as you travel into the Great Southern. Kojonup is 2.5 hours fr...

The grid barely noticed. The local feeder for the block saw a slight rise, form about 40% capacity to 60% capacity :D Yeah, Western Power have plenty of juice.

Re: I-MiEV Main battery cell failure

No jokes - it should be easy enough to fit considerably more kWh in that space. 24 kWh is certainly doable with NMC or LiCo cells. I've been putting batteries together which would easily do this, however it wouldn't be cheap. Unfortunately 24 kWh would cost more than the value of the car simply beca...

This is where he's coming from I think. Perhaps he didn't specify that the inverter needed to be an inverter / charger? Presumably the one with the transformer built in?

Pairing up a battery inverter with a grid tie inverter...

Here's a quirky (and probably dumb) idea suggested by someone on the internet: Take a grid tie inverter and power it with a 2 kW array, for example. Take a 3 kW DC-AC inverter powered by a 10 kWh battery. Parallel the AC outputs of both inverters, protected and switched, of course. Turn on the Batte...

Re: Dreamers Questions. Hillclimb 4wd Racer

Yeah we had a 9 kWh battery on Voltron and it would have put out ~190 kW to the rear wheel. The current 6 kWh pack puts out 175 kW to the wheel. I'm just thinking he might want the extra capacity in order to get to the event sort of thing. The added power of a big pack would certainly help but the w...

Re: generator-motor, you'd be better off leaving a gas engine in there if you take that approach. Re: battery - yes I'd say a 16 kWh, 150 kg battery is about right for most hillclimb/burnout activities. The Mitsubishi iMiEV has a 16 kWh battery and it has a range of 100 km at responsible road speeds...

Re: Battery Box building

I reckon this will work pretty well with the Leaf modules. However if you can, try and squeeze them in so there's good contact all the way out to the sides of the enclosure. Then it should be able to soak any heat away. The polycarb lining will limit how effective this is, but you will need somethin...
